"Alcioneo,es el caudillo de los gigantes e hijo de Gea, la diosa de la Tierra, de cuyo contacto recibe Alcioneo su invulnerabilidad.
Atenea lo sabe y sujetándole por los cabellos, lo levanta del suelo.
En el rostro de Alcioneo se advierte el sentimiento de su inermidad. El gigante se siente desvalido, irremediablemente abocado a un trágico fin. Las inútiles súplicas de su madre, que intercede por él, hacen más patética la imagen de vencido en cuyo rostro descompuesto se adivina otra lucha: la del hombre contra su destino inexorable"
